As the Engineering Lead on the Commerce team, you will help meet the needs of our customers through defining and executing on our Commerce strategy. Commerce powers the foundational components of the Boulevard platform including Order, Checkout, Memberships, Payment primitives, etc., requiring meeting accounting integrity standards. This is a highly visible role in a space that is extremely important for our customers and mission-critical for the business.

The ideal candidate will be customer-centric with a proven track record of architecting and building Commerce primitives at scale. Your commitment to the customer experience and strong ownership of the quality and integrity of your squad’s work sets a high standard for the squad. Working closely with Engineering, Product Management, Design, and Product Marketing, you will be crucial in making informed product decisions, building exceptional products, and achieving significant business outcomes. Your dedication to developing reliable, scalable, performant, and maintainable systems goes hand in hand with creating a motivating environment for everyone to excel in their work.

What You'll Do Here

• Lead and manage the 3-5 person squad (~40%) while contributing hands-on as a Staff SWE (~60%).
• Strategic planning and execution, ensuring alignment with the company’s vision and objectives.
• Own and lead the technical architecture and implementation of Boulevard’s Commerce Platform.
• Establish and monitor system health metrics, implementing strategies to exceed targets.
• Champion the maintenance of an observable, secure, and efficient codebase, addressing technical debt proactively to ensure the platform’s reliability and performance.
• Participate in Incident Commander on-call rotation, leading incident response, communicating with stakeholders, and identifying post-incident improvements.

What You'll Need to Thrive

Experience

• Experience building and maintaining eCommerce and accounting products.
• Experience shipping high-impact and complex user-facing initiatives.
• Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go). Experience in Elixir is a plus.
• CS Foundations: Ability to make sound decisions and tradeoffs in design and implementation, anticipating scale, maintenance, and operational feasibility.
• Strong Communicator: Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative: Deep partnership with product, design, and marketing counterparts, ensuring progress toward desired outcomes and engagement in cross-functional initiatives.
• Ownership: Able to lead large initiatives and roadmaps by defining and scoping smaller deliverables that yield incremental value to the business and customers.
• Autonomy: Ability to move things forward in the face of ambiguity, operating effectively in decision-making while clearly articulating risks and trade-offs.
• Technical & Leadership Skills: A balance of technical and leadership strengths, guiding sound technical decisions while empowering the team to create significant impact.

How We’ll Take Care of You

Your total budgeted cash compensation for this role is between $190,000 and $220,000 USD, depending on your skills, experience, and market demands. This range is subject to change, and there is always room for growth and advancement.
