Overview
We are looking for an Engineer Who Can Design to join our team in the Americas. This unique role allows engineers to not only build software but also tackle some of the most challenging design problems. If you’ve ever wanted to blend design and engineering seamlessly, this role is for you.
Locations
- Onsite or Remote: San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Remote (North to South America).
Compensation
- USA Level 4: $170K – $200K + Equity
- USA Level 5: $180K – $230K + Equity
- USA Level 6: $200K – $260K + Equity
- Canada Level 4: CA$172.5K – CA$205K + Equity
- Canada Level 5: CA$182.5K – CA$235K + Equity
- Canada Level 6: CA$235K – CA$335K + Equity
The posted range represents typical compensation. Actual pay will depend on experience, qualifications, and location.
Responsibilities
- Redesign the mobile web app by conducting user research, wireframing, and implementing the design.
- Build flexible, composable components for our design system to enhance customizability for other engineers.
- Collaborate with engineers to improve information hierarchy and overall usability of our products.
- Own projects end-to-end, from user research to UX design and implementation.
Who You Are
- At least 5 years of experience as a frontend engineer or a mix of engineering and design.
- Deep expertise in React, CSS, HTML, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
- Knowledge of Node.js, Postgres, and Redis.
- Strong understanding of design systems and their implementation.
- Passion for building tools that combine usability with technical excellence.

Interview Process
- Introductory Call (30 minutes): Learn about Ashby and discuss your experience.
- Technical Screen: Choose between a take-home assignment or live session (90 minutes).
- Virtual On-Site (3 hours 45 minutes): Spread over one or two days, includes collaborative tasks and Q&A.
